Meet the Coaches

 
Michel Suleau

Born in Senegal, West Africa. Speaks the woluf which is the African dialect. His education was in a local school where is was the only white pupil.  Enjoys all sports, plays the drums.  Came to France to do his military service and stayed in Europe for 8 yrs.  Eventually went back to Senegal in 1981 to work in the family business. From 1981 to 1996 he enjoyed playing tennis with the Senegalese Davis Cup team, Michel played to a high level in all the local tournaments and  has many trophies to show for this. An excellent doubles and singles player. 
 
During his time in Dakar Michel was the Sports Manager of the American Club c/o the American Embassy in Dakar, part of his responsibilities entailed all the Club Maintenance, Sports Activities and Public Relations.  Michel coached tennis at the club and when he came to England in 1996 he took the LTA qualifications.  He is a CCA Performance strand, a qualified ABTO referee, RPT National Pro (this is the Spanish qualification).
 
Michel has coached many players to county and national level and  hopes to do the same at Gravesham.

Angie Suleau

Born in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire my first love was horses and I enjoyed riding since the age of 7 yrs old.  Had my own horse and competed in various events.  Took my Riding Assistant Instructress qualification and at the age on 19 yrs when to Belgium to work with International Show Jumpers. Met Michel in Belgium and when to Senegal in 1981 where my two children were born.  Started playing tennis and especially enjoyed playing singles, competed in many local tournaments and had alot of success.  Worked alongside Michel as the co-manager at the American Club. Later worked at the British Embassy.  On our return to England in 1996 took the LTA ECA qualification and later the DCA qualification.  Have worked on a part-time basis in coaching and done a fair bit of refereeing work as I have the  ABTO qualification.  Have constantly kept my qualification up to date by taking the various course to gain my license points. Enjoy working with young children especially mini red.

Lorna Pender

Lorna Pender: LTA Level 2 coach, work mostly with mini tennis.  Have been involved with junior section for many years.   Help to run North Kent junior league in summer and am Kent LTA Competition Coordinator for North Kent so very interested in competition and getting youngsters started in playing matches outside of their coaching.
